The commitment of Top Management - ISO 9001:2008
As ISO 9001 is a standard management is vital to participation and involvement from top management to the entire organization is focused and motivated to implement a QMS. The standard set aside a requirement for senior management because of its great importance in the identification process, and meeting customer requirements. Have you heard that phrase "the company has to face the owner?" It was thus thought that the ISO and prepared this requirement.
Thus the auditors will find out if top management is really committed to the QMS. The commitment can be evidenced through these five points required by the standard ISO 9001:
a) communicating to the organization the importance of meeting customer as well as statutory and regulatory requirements,
c) ensuring that quality objectives are established,
d) conducting management reviews, and
e) ensuring the availability of resources.
If people in your organization do not know the quality policy is a sign that top management made no effort to communicate it throughout the organization. If there are no meeting minutes proving the existence of critical analysis meetings we have another evidence that top management is not compromised. If resources are scarce or training are not adequately provided further evidence that they aren´t not compromised.
